Welcome to Read 2 Achieve

Closing the achievement gap, by equipping Educators and Parents with strategies and techniques to support and empower struggling beginning Readers.

“If a child is a struggling reader or writer, the conclusion must be made that WE have not yet discovered the way to help them learn.”

A little about us

A 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization with a vision to create confident and productive adults by intervening early in grades K-3 to ensure that all students are reading at or above grade level by the end of 3rd grade. Early Intervention will close the achievement gap and end both the, “School-to-Prison” and “School-to-Pregnancy” pipelines. Reforming the Educational system in this manner will be cost effective to society and school systems by reducing special-education classification rates, high-school drop-out rates, teen pregnancy and health care costs. In turn, educators, parents, and all stakeholders will be equipped with the necessary tools, training, coaching, and resources to empower early readers to be critical thinkers and problem-solvers.

“The most common way people give up their power, is by thinking they don’t have any.”

(Alice Walker)

Why Early Intervention

Illiteracy
The United States Department of Justice states, "The link between academic failure and delinquency, violence, and crime is welded to reading failure." Over 70% of inmates in America's prisons cannot read about a 4th grade level. The effects of illiteracy extend beyond the Justice system.
"Literacy is a bridge from misery to hope." (Kofi Annan)
Read Proficently
Research has proven that many of societal problems have a direct correlation to illiteracy. According to the National Assessment of Adult Literacy (NAAL) and the U.S. Department of Education, 75% of students who can not read proficiently by the end of 3rd grade will end up in jail or on welfare. More than 60% of all prison inmates are functionally illiterate.

Health Care
Girls 16-19 years old at the poverty level and below, with below average reading skills, are 6 times more likely to have out-of-wedlock children than their reading peers. Low literacy costs $73 million per year in terms of direct health care costs. Recent studies have put the cost much higher. Early Intervention in Reading must be seen as a cost-effective means to eradicate many of societal ills.
